From sinuous cotton dresses to the drawing-room drama of floor-sweeping gowns, London Fashion Week’s frontline talent are plumping for a return to grand beauty.
HERE ARE SOME TOP TRENDS FROM
Compared to New York fashion Week SS2020, the runways at London Fashion Week were far from quiet or boring. In fact, the trends that rose to the top following the just-wrapped, 5 days event were rooted in maximalism. Designers flooded the U.K. capital with fearless fashion for Summer Spring 2020.
Lavender represents loyalty and as an oil, it promotes relaxation. Perhaps, London designers were trying to evoke the latter by sprinkling their warm-weather collections with hints of the light purple hue in hopes that it could calm their anxiety in a chaos-ridden country. Whether or not this was the case, the soothing shade was everywhere.
Lavender is a flattering colour to wear — bright without drowning you out, softly illuminating next to the face. So flattering is it, in fact, that somewhere along the way it became a uniform for “women of a certain age”. e was referring to lavender.
Commonly associated with preppy, punk, and grunge fashion, plaid is perhaps one of the most versatile patterns.
At Paris Fashion Week, Christian Dior and Marine Serre especially championed the print in their collections, while it made not-to-be-missed cameos at Lanvin, Unravel, and Rokh, too.

Plaid has about a dozen different associations. The checked blazers, dresses and pants we saw at the Spring 2020 London shows seemed to check all of those boxes, and then some — and they came in nearly every color of the rainbow.
From leopard-print pleated dresses to glitzy head-to-toe zebra looks, the runways across the pond started to resemble an actual zoo, albeit a fancy one with no foul smells.
The perennial trend tends to get a refresh every so often, and this season it got upgraded from cool street wear to contemporary evening wear.
Mixing prints and patterns is not only acceptable — it's supremely on-trend.
Nothing says 'fashionista' quite like the ability to mix prints. When you take two or more very different pieces and make them work together in a chic and cool way - that's when you can call yourself a fashion expert.
Pairing clashing prints seems scary, but it's actually easier than it looks.
Bike shorts are a major trend for spring 2019, but this time around, it has nothing to do with exercise or physical performance. Call it the Princess Diana Effect if you will: Chic spandex bike shorts popped up on runways all over the city.
Though worn without a vintage logo sweatshirt, and sometimes rendered in lace or a shimmery fabric, the thigh-hugging shorts sparked some resemblance to the cycling ones worn by the late royal.
Minimalist shapes are out and maximalist, room-filling silhouettes are in: Big, strapless bubbles; swaggering, size-ignoring taffeta and tulle confections; and extra puffy sleeves could all be spotted — from a good 10 miles away — in the British capital.
This list is just the tip of the iceberg. Remember, trends mean nothing if you don’t use them to make what you do – and the world – better. So absorb these trends, take them to your team, share, discuss, argue and conspire. Do you know of any other ways? Let us know by dropping in a text in the comments section below.
